Use BNI City for central Jakarta; choose Manggarai for an onward KRL connection
Choose the right Soekarno-Hatta airport-train stop for Sudirman, Menteng, Monas, Kota Tua, the MRT or an onward KRL journey.

For most stays in central Jakarta, get off at BNI City. It brings you into the Dukuh Atas–Sudirman transport district, where you can continue by MRT or finish by taxi or app-booked car to Menteng, Thamrin, Monas or Gambir.
Choose Manggarai instead when your priority is an onward KRL commuter-train connection, particularly toward Depok or Bogor. The airport train does not stop at Gambir.
Pick your station by destination
| Destination | Best airport-train stop | Practical next step |
|---|---|---|
| Sudirman, Dukuh Atas or nearby Setiabudi | BNI City | Walk if your address is close; otherwise take a short car ride |
| Bundaran HI, Plaza Indonesia or central Thamrin | BNI City | Transfer to the MRT toward Bundaran HI, or take a car with luggage |
| Menteng, Cikini, Gondangdia, Monas or Gambir | BNI City | A taxi or app-booked car is usually the simplest final leg |
| South Jakarta along the MRT corridor | BNI City | Walk to MRT Dukuh Atas BNI and take a southbound train toward Lebak Bulus Grab |
| Depok, Bogor or another KRL destination | Manggarai | Change to the appropriate KRL service after checking the current network map |
| Kota Tua | BNI City for the simpler arrival | Continue by car; Duri is not Jakarta Kota station and does not remove the need for another leg |
| West Jakarta near Rawa Buaya | Rawa Buaya | Continue locally by car |
| Tangerang near Batu Ceper | Batu Ceper | Continue locally by car or local rail, depending on the address |
KAI Commuter’s published fare relations identify the airport line’s city stations as Batu Ceper, Rawa Buaya, Duri, BNI City and Manggarai (fare and ticketing statement reported by Media Indonesia). Confirm that your chosen train serves the station shown on your ticket and departure display.
Why BNI City works for central Jakarta
BNI City is in the Dukuh Atas interchange district. Three names matter here:
- BNI City is the airport-train station.
- Dukuh Atas BNI is the MRT station.
- Sudirman is the nearby KRL station.
They are separate stations within the same broader transport area, not platforms in one building. Jakarta MRT describes Dukuh Atas BNI as part of an integrated district serving the MRT, LRT, Transjakarta, KRL and airport train. Its official page places the MRT station on Jalan Tanjung Karang in Central Jakarta and lists trains toward both Bundaran HI and Lebak Bulus Grab (Jakarta MRT station information).
This gives you two useful arrival strategies:
- Use the MRT for Bundaran HI or destinations farther south along the MRT corridor.
- Use a car for Menteng, Cikini, Monas and Gambir, where another rail transfer often adds walking without delivering you to the door.
The transfer from BNI City to the MRT involves a walk through the interchange area. Allow more time if you have heavy luggage or limited mobility. In rain, a direct car from BNI City may be preferable even when the MRT is otherwise convenient.
When Manggarai is the better choice
Manggarai is the useful airport-train stop when you intend to continue on the KRL network. Check the destination and interchange on KAI Commuter’s official route-map page before committing to this option.
Manggarai is not the default answer simply because it is a major station. Visitors bound for Thamrin, Menteng or Monas still need another transfer, while BNI City starts them closer to those areas. With large bags, BNI City followed by a car can be easier than navigating another railway interchange.
What about Duri and Kota Tua?
Duri can suit a specific West Jakarta address or a journey planned around the KRL network. It is not a direct Kota Tua stop: Jakarta Kota station is elsewhere, so another rail or road leg remains.
For a first arrival with luggage, BNI City followed by a car to Kota Tua is the simpler plan. Check live road conditions after landing, because congestion can alter the tradeoff.
At the airport
The airport railway station is separate from the passenger terminals. After baggage reclaim, follow airport signs for Kereta Bandara / Airport Train and allow time to reach the station before the departure shown on your ticket.
Before boarding:
- Confirm the stop printed on the ticket—normally BNI City for central Jakarta or Manggarai for a KRL connection.
- Check the live departure display rather than relying on an old timetable screenshot.
- Keep the ticket or QR code ready for the exit gate.
- At BNI City, choose between the MRT and a car based on luggage, weather and your exact address.
Tickets, fare and the reduced 2026 timetable
Tickets are available through KAI Commuter’s official airport-train booking site. A KAI Commuter statement reported in November 2024 also listed Access by KAI, station vending machines and KMT Tap & Go as purchase methods. Its fare table put travel from the airport to Duri, BNI City or Manggarai at Rp70,000, and to Rawa Buaya or Batu Ceper at Rp35,000 (fare and purchase details). Treat those as planning figures and verify the current fare on the booking screen.
The timetable changed on 10 September 2026, when KAI Commuter temporarily reduced the service from 70 to 52 trips per day during rolling-stock reassignment and maintenance. KAI advised passengers to check C-Access or Access by KAI for current departures (TVRI News, quoting KAI Commuter).
Do not assume metro-style frequency. After landing, compare the next useful train—plus the terminal-to-station transfer and your final city connection—with a direct airport car. The train makes the most sense when a departure is reasonably close and your destination fits BNI City, the MRT corridor or an onward KRL trip from Manggarai.
